This morning Tom Campbell announced that he would be ending his campaign for Governor of California and would start campaigning for Senate.
In his note to supporters Cambell said, “Every day brings more evidence of the need for fiscal restraint in Washington, and the huge danger to our country from printing money. Truly, in my lifetime, I have never seen the growth of federal government spending more out of control.”
But what is greater of note was his dogged gain in raising funds in comparison to his Republican opponents: Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner.
“Another consideration in my decision was that the dynamics of the race for Governor are such that I would have faced two billionaires. The path of public service and teaching is rewarding, but it does not afford one the ability to invest millions of dollars in a campaign for office,” Campbell said in the letter.
If Campbell is smart, he will make his Senate race against incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer much like how Nevada Republicans (Lowden and Tarkanian) have taken down Harry Reid.
